July 23 A Small Improvement

Repeat blood testing brought the first meaningful improvement in Patient 26-519's anemia.

Her PCV increased to 12%, up from 8%.

While still severely anemic, the increase was encouraging.

Her body condition remained poor, and she continued to require assisted feeding. Fluids, supportive care and treatment for possible infectious causes continued.

The team continued checking her PCV frequently because a single improved result could not establish that the anemia had resolved.

The central question remained unanswered: Why was she anemic?
