August 5–7 New and Concerning Findings

On August 5, Patient 26-519 underwent a contrast CT scan and bone marrow biopsy. She was carefully supported and monitored throughout anesthesia and recovered without complication.

The CT provided both encouraging and concerning information.

The abnormalities previously seen in her lungs had improved. However, significant thrombosis (blood clot formation) was identified, including involvement of a major blood vessel supplying the flight (pectoral) muscles and an area near one kidney.

The bone marrow evaluation showed that her body was producing red blood cells, but the sample did not provide a complete explanation for why her circulating red blood cell level remained so low. Additional samples and findings were submitted for specialist interpretation.

The discovery of thrombosis led to further evaluation of her blood-clotting system, while additional specialized laboratory testing continued.

As new information became available, treatments were adjusted to address medically reasonable possibilities. At the same time, the veterinary team continually evaluated how Patient 26-519 was tolerating those treatments.

This balance became increasingly important as her illness grew more complex.
