August 3 Anemia Worsens Again

The improvement in Patient 26-519's red blood cell level did not hold.

Her PCV fell significantly again, to 13%.

This renewed decline changed the direction of the investigation.

Having ruled out the most common explanations and gone through all standard diagnostics, plans moved forward for another CT scan and direct evaluation of the bone marrow.

These procedures required careful consideration because advanced diagnostics are not without risk in a severely anemic patient.

The potential benefit of obtaining information that could change treatment therefore had to be weighed against the stress and anesthetic risk associated with the procedures.
