An initial blood zinc result became available and was considered low rather than elevated.

Based on that result, zinc toxicosis did not appear to explain Patient 26-519's condition at that point in the investigation.

As the case continued, however, additional specialized heavy-metal testing would later produce a different result (slightly moderate zinc level), one of several examples in this case of why veterinarians sometimes repeat or expand testing through different laboratories when the clinical picture remains unexplained.
