August 9 A Significant Deterioration
Patient 26-519's condition became increasingly concerning.
Her anemia remained severe, with her PCV falling to below 6%, her red blood cell level remained critically low.
She also became disinterested in self-feeding and could not keep food down with assisted feedings. She remained in intensive care with oxygen support, fluid treatment and close monitoring.
By this stage, the combination of profound anemia, thrombosis, difficulty maintaining nutrition, the body’s inability to absorb fluids and the broader evidence of systemic illness made her prognosis extremely poor.
Multiple veterinarians and consulting specialists were involved in reviewing her condition and determining what options remained medically appropriate.
The focus was no longer only on individual laboratory values. Her medical team was evaluating the entire patient, her blood values, breathing, appetite, strength, response to treatment and overall welfare.
