August 6 Coagulation Testing and PCV Back to 10%

The day after the advanced imaging, Patient 26-519 remained alert during her examination.

Her PCV, however, had fallen below 10% again. Her blood protein remained low.

Because the CT identified thrombosis, we collected additional blood specifically to evaluate her coagulation system, the mechanisms responsible for controlling blood clotting.

Those results were shared with consulting veterinarians for interpretation.

Mild swelling was also present in both legs. Because of this, additional fluids were withheld that day rather than automatically continuing them.

She was hand-fed fish during the examination and received nutritional supplementation appropriate for a diet containing a high proportion of fish.

The medical team was now dealing simultaneously with severe anemia, abnormal clot formation and an underlying disease process that had still not been definitively identified. This was a much more difficult and nuanced case to treat than other cases where the patient can be stabilized while the central issue is being addressed (for example with a fracture).
