Biodiversity and Resiliency Zoom Program
This program explores how owls native to California fill different, important ecological niches, how humans can influence changes to their ecosystems, and how biodiversity increases ecosystem resiliency in the face of change. This program shows variations in physical and behavioral traits of two owl ambassadors and other native California raptors that allow some species to survive in specific habitats, and others to be more adaptable to habitat modification. The unique social dynamics of these two ambassadors’ species are also discussed, as well as characteristics between individuals of the same species that provide advantages in surviving, finding mates, and reproducing.
This Zoom program was created based on these Next Generation Science Standards but provides fascinating information about both of these popular owl species for all ages.
