NESTING SEASON 2016!
We are looking for more volunteers for the upcoming 2016 nesting/summer season in our Animal Care department. We'll also be going over volunteer transport and baby songbird care.
Animal Care encompasses all the day-to-day work at the center, not just animal care. This includes- feeding all patients and education ambassadors; cleaning the hospital, mews and flights. This work is 90% custodial- which means a ton of cleaning. It also may include center landscaping, structure upkeep and other organizational/maintenance tasks. You will also be assisting supervisors with intakes of new patients, raptor husbandry and raising orphaned raptors. It is dirty, hard work but extremely rewarding. From intake to release, you will learn a lot about wildlife rehabilitation, and birds of prey. During nesting season we also take in a ton of Corvids and other non-raptor native wild birds.
We are looking for a commitment of one 4 hour/week shift for nesting season. We need the most help during the months of May-July. A 3-4 month commitment is ideal. No experience necessary. If you know you may be traveling or have other long-term commitments that will come up May-July we respectfully ask you to rethink volunteering with us during this time as we will spend a lot of time and energy training new volunteers. Our initial meeting will go over everything you will need to know before you commit to applying and starting the training process. We’ll go over a typical day at the center, what to expect and what is expected of our volunteers. At this first meeting you will not be required to turn in an application but if you'd like to fill one out, you can download it here.
*At this time we are not taking volunteers under the age of 17.
*No sign-up required
Please arrive to the center on Saturday February 13th at 1 pm. Please bring a writing utensil and something to take notes with, a jacket in case it’s breezy, and a chair if it's easy for you.
Thank you for your interest!
