FORREST AND NEWTON THE GREAT HORNED OWLS
In the center picture, Newton is on the right and Forrest is on the left. Newton and Forrest are both imprinted owls. Newton came to ORC in 2012, Forrest came to ORC in 2013. Forrest also has some visual issues with her right eye. For more information on imprinting and how to prevent it, please see our FAQ page.
Great Horned Owls are considered apex predators in the bird world. They are a common, nocturnal owl- most notably identified by their hooting at night. Great Horned Owls are extremely strong, their talon force is 800+ pounds per square inch. To put that in perspective, Great White Sharks and African Lions have both been measured to only reach between 600-700 psi in their bite forces! Great Horned Owls hunt rodents, reptile and other birds and owls.
