LUCY THE WESTERN SCREECH OWL
Lucy came to Ojai Raptor Center as a juvenile from Goleta. She was found underneath her nest and had been attacked by another predator. She sustained damage to both of her eyes. Lucy is not blind but she cannot see well enough to hunt and thrive in the wild so she will remain at the Ojai Raptor Center for the remainder of her life as an education ambassador. Lucy lives with Riley.
Western Screech Owls are very common to Ventura County. Despite their name, they do not screech but have a very pleasant trill call that can be heard at night. Screech Owls are nocturnal cavity nesters and spend the day in tree cavities or other small spaces. Screech Owls live all over but are most commonly found in riparian, forested habitats.
